Green Home Tour 2026- This Sunday!

We will go to two houses on Sunday, May 17, in the afternoon, starting at 1 pm.

​

House #1:

Daniel and Katherine's house is a homemade load bearing (without frame) straw-bale and cob house with earthen floors and clay based plaster finishes. The house utilizes a rubble trench foundation and earthbag stem wall to support the 2.5 foot thick walls.

The home is heated with a batch style rocket mass heater which heats the 750 square foot home on two cords of wood each year. Also featured on the same property are pallet and cob constructed composting toilets, outdoor shower with tadelakt plaster (Moroccan), straw-bale workshop, freestanding cob garden walls, and a cob and straw-bale guesthouse.

House #2

Jill's house is a frame house with thick walls, a north side earth berm and lots of thermal mass. She has electrified her energy use. The house is entirely heated by an air source heat pump. Solar panels help with the energy use of the heat pump. She cooks with a combination of an electric range and a portable induction cooktop. There is also a large organic market garden with continuously blooming flowers for the bees, and a native bee hotel.

To join the tour, meet Daniel at the Hwy 93/ Sheafman Ck. Rd. park-n-ride at 1 pm to carpool to his home. He has parking room for 8 vehicles.

Next, you can take your vehicles to Jill's farm where the tour will start at 3:30 p.m. The address is 329 McVey Rd, behind Victor. The driveway is beside a green John Deere farm machine and goes to a blue house with a round window. Park in the field beside the house or in the circular driveway
